This project involved the intensive renovation of an existing apartment building in Norwood, Johannesburg. The building is situated on Grant Ave. which is an historic nightlife destination in Johannesburg. The brief called for interior fit-out of all existing apartments and the creation of new apartments on the top floor of the building in an area which previously contained apartheid-era servants quarters. We proposed extensive façade works as well as a landscape wooden-decked landscape in the building courtyard which would provide communal space for tenants above the parking tarmac. The project also included the renovation of a ground-floor retail strip which provides a transparent, active edge to the busy pedestrian avenue.
