This was a small rooftop addition of 16 new student housing units on the rooftop of a ten-story office building in Braamfontein, which had previously been converted to student housing by the client. Loading limitations on the existing structure called for a light-gauge steel walling and roofing system, clad in painted magnesium oxide board. Privacy screens between units were constructed in rhinowood. The building is part of a precinct in Braamfontein owned by the client, and benefits from the amenities provided by the 99 Juta building next door, which was also designed by Local Studio.
