This was the renovation of an existing CTM retail warehouse in Pretoria, which had been built in the early 1990’s. As with many of our projects for CTM, we promoted the creation of an active street-facing edge through the location and design of the main entrance and coffee shop. After this renovation, CTM Gezina’s sales increased considerably, owing in part to the new edge strategy. This project was challenging because of a neighboring informal settlement which needed to be partially moved to allow for a warehouse extension. Several residents of this settlement obtain employment as tilers owing to their strategic location next to the store.
