This project was funded by Intel and investigated ways in which shifts in the use of simple and complex technologies could enhance the lives and livelihoods of informal food traders in Johannesburg. Our research specifically focuses on the ways that informal food traders (a) have been using and would like to use technology (mainly mobile phones) to access different types of information; and (b) had used and would like to use technology for communication to build and maintain social and economic networks. Local Studio was responsible for the research investigation in Brixton, Johannesburg, as well as the design of the final Siyaxhumuna research report.
